Antonino-Daviu (Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain), and K. N. Gyftakis (Technical University of Crete, Greece).
Greece and the Technical University of Crete are represented by Prof. Konstantinos Gyftakis of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Leader of the Electrical Machines Laboratory (EMLab), who was the coordinator of the research team.
The awarded paper proposes a novel method to detect rotor electrical faults in induction motors, and that can be applied independently from the loading and the speed of the motor. The method is based on the isolation of harmoincs from the stator current spectrum and is a reliable solution for industrial applications, especially when traditional and commercial methods fail to provide a reliable diagnosis. The paper develops the theoretical background of the newly proposed method, presents electromagnetic simulations results from different motors and closes with experimental verification on a real electromechanical system.
